How do you clean clay pots after cooking?
Unlike other utensils, terracotta cookware needs to be seasoned before use. The seasoning process is quite simple, soak the clay pot in water for 12 to 15 hours overnight then remove the pot from the water and wipe the pot with a dry cloth. Later apply castor oil on the inside surface of the pot and heat it on a low flame for 2 minutes or until you see the oil getting absorbed in the surface. Your terracotta clay pot is ready for cooking. While using the clay pots regularly, we recommend washing it by hand and refrain from using soaps/detergents as they may soak into the pores of the utensil and seep into your food instead use baking soda. Avoid tapping metal spoons on the rim of the terracotta cookware as the dish may break, use only wooden spoons or spatulas. While cleaning, rinse the pot after cooking, then boil water in it with leftover lemon peels. A soak in baking soda will help remove odours and freshen the pot after cooking pungent food.
